How to Work at Home and Stay Focused

What's the biggest problem when you work at home? Staying focused!

There are a million other things to do than sit down and work on your at-home business. When you work at home you are subject to interruptions that just don't occur in an office environment: for instance your personal telephone ringing off the hook (don't answer!); or your 7th grader wandering in at 4 o'clock to say he needs supplies for his science project - which is due tomorrow! Things like that.

When you work at home you must stay focused and keep your eye on the ball. And yes, it IS possible. Make a schedule and stick to it. Dedicate however many hours a day you can realistically spend on your at-home business, whether that be two hours or ten. Everyone has different lifestyles, demands, budgets, and energy reserves. So make sure your plan will work for you. Be realistic!

A second strategy for staying focused when you work at home is to find business-building techniques and resources that inspire you! Whether those be sending postcards to prospects or using the internet to market to thousands, if you enjoy the technique(s) you're using you'll have a lot better luck at staying on task and focused!

And one of the most important tips? Build in time for breaks - good ones! Take a break to run around the block. Or to have a cup of tea in front of the fire. Or to answer a few personal emails or write a thank you note. Plan these into your schedule too. When you work at home you have the "authority" to decide how to work, when to work, and when to play. But you have to use that power wisely in order to be successful.

And good luck with your work at home!!!
